Word sudokuWordoku — one of ten games in Padamz
Word sudoku is sudoku with the digits taken out and letters put in. Every row, every column and every box holds each letter exactly once — the logic is the sudoku logic you already know, but the grid spells something when it is finished.
Play Wordoku →How Wordoku works
A 6×6 grid on easy, a 9×9 on hard. One row spells a real word when the grid is solved, which is the difference between this and a sudoku that happens to use letters: there is a second thing to find, and spotting the word early collapses the rest of the grid quickly.
Tap a cell, tap a letter. A letter that would break a row, a column or a box is refused rather than accepted and marked wrong later, so you are never deep inside a grid that went bad ten moves ago.
Three things that help
- Read the letter set first. Six or nine distinct letters that almost spell something is the strongest clue on the board.
- Scan boxes before rows. A box with four of six filled usually forces the remaining two outright.
- Hard is 9×9 and takes real bookkeeping. Start on easy even if ordinary sudoku is second nature — letters are harder to hold in your head than digits, because your eye cannot sort them.
Questions
Is word sudoku the same as sudoku?
The rules are identical — each symbol once per row, column and box. Only the symbols change, from the digits 1 to 9 to letters. The extra twist here is that one line of the solved grid spells a word.
Do I need to know the word to solve it?
No. The grid is solvable by pure sudoku logic and the word is a bonus shortcut. Spotting it early only saves you time.
Is it free?
Yes. No account, no sign-up and nothing to install — it runs in the browser and in the app.
